Our Cosmetic Standard
NOTE: By placing an order with us, you are agreeing that you understand and agree with the conditions of these cosmetic standards.
At GD Woodworking & Design, we take great pride in each and every unique piece of furniture we create.

Our pieces are all handcrafted and intricately finished by our team. All pieces are built using solid wood and other professional building materials.

Given the handmade and hand-finished nature of the products we craft, variations and imperfections in the wood should be expected and celebrated! Just as every tree is unique, so too is every piece of furniture that is handcrafted and hand finished for our customers.

Wood + Stain Variations & Matching Stain Colors
Every piece of furniture has a unique grain pattern and because of that, slight color variations will result. We cannot guarantee exact stain matches to other pieces we've done in the past. Every piece of wood accepts stain and finishes differently.

We will use the stain or paint color that customers request, but there is a chance that the end result color will vary slightly from the piece or picture the customer had in mind when placing the order. This is normal in custom woodworking. We cannot rework a piece to achieve a perfect match.

We do NOT match stain colors from photos. Customers may choose to bring a specific stain and specify a type of wood for a project, and in doing so, the end result is the customer’s decision. The finalized product will not be reworked. Because all wood types receive stains differently, we cannot rework staining that did not come out exactly as the customer had in mind. Why? Because - every piece of wood has a unique grain pattern and there will always be slight color variations.

*By requesting a stain match, you are acknowledging that you do understand that it will not be a 100% perfect match.*

Sanding + Stain Colors
The finer the finish, the lighter the stain will be. The more that a piece is distressed, the darker the stain will be. Why? Because wood has pores and as wood is finely sanded, the pores shut off - allowing less stain into the wood - resulting in a lighter color. If a customer chooses to distress the wood of a project, please know that distressing wood will generally result in the wood taking on a darker stain. If customers order a finely finished piece based off of a photo of a heavily distressed piece, and the same stain is requested, please know that the stain is going to look different on a finely finished, non-distressed piece.

General Variations in Furniture
Other characteristics of handcrafted, solid wood furniture include open knots, visible brush strokes, micro-imperfections and textural variations in the durable, hand brushed finishes, unique distress marks, exposed screws, wood filler marks, joint lines, and distinctive nicks, splits, sanding marks, cracks, and other imperfections.
We allow up to approximately 1" of variation across all measurements due to the custom nature of the handcrafted furniture we build.

Those who do not appreciate variations and imperfections should not purchase handcrafted furniture.

Solid wood may expand and contract due to changes in temperature and humidity.

Throughout seasonal humidity changes, customers may notice and feel a small seam in between the boards on your table. A small amount of this is normal because wood acts like a sponge and expands/contracts throughout the year.
Customers may also notice up to â…›” - ¼“ movement in length/width/thickness in your furniture as well. Throughout the seasons certain pieces may also incur a minor bow/flex due to the nature of wood movement. This is all normal with solid wood furniture. If a customer notices a significant amount of wood movement that appears to be abnormal, reach out to our team and we will discuss what is normal vs. what requires repair.

Our projects have beautiful and natural open knots on jointed table tops. We do not offer machine manufactured perfection - no two pieces are exactly alike since GD Woodworking & Design furniture is crafted to order specifications.

We celebrate the true uniqueness of every piece of solid wood furniture that is built and finished by hand in our wood shop. It is our hope that our customers will, as well.

Lead Times
With orders we will give a lead time. With many orders in our queue at any given time, lead times are purely estimates.

At times, we will be able to complete and deliver products to customers before the estimated lead time given, and at other times, issues may happen in production that delay orders beyond lead times. The lead time that we have given is our best guess at when customers will receive their product.

We cannot guarantee a specific delivery date. Our ultimate goal is for our products to always be at a high quality standard that will last, and the process of meeting those high standards requires time.

Please know this if a customer places an order with us in hopes of receiving it for a special occasion such as a party, birthday, holiday, etc... that we will always do our best to accommodate, but we cannot guarantee anything in terms of delivery date. Please understand this before placing an order with us.
